The name Catherine Hinds has been
synonymous with skin care for over four decades. As Boston's original
esthetician and a pioneer in the field of esthetics, she has been
instrumental in educating and positioning the American esthetician as
a primary force in skin care. She began her career by establishing a
chain of skin care salons in Boston and New York in the late sixties
and early seventies.
In 1979, after successfully
lobbying to create separate licensing for estheticians in the state
of Massachusetts, Ms. Hinds founded the first accredited
esthetics school in the country, the Catherine Hinds Institute of
Esthetics.
From inception, the goal of the Institute has been to be foremost in the field
of esthetic training. In January, 1983, the school was granted the first accreditation
of any esthetic school in the United States.
Today the Institute is nationally accredited by the Accrediting Commission of
Career Schools and Colleges of Technology and offers state-of-the-art training
in all areas of esthetic education.
The Catherine Hinds Institute of Esthetics
is presently the only school in the country to offer accredited programs in both
Spa Therapy and Medical Esthetics. The Catherine Hinds Institute has been dedicated
to presenting the leading theories and technological advancements in skin care in
an unbiased forum. The school upholds the belief that a pioneering spirit is essential
to learning. With product knowledge, cosmetic chemistry and technology continually
improving, it is imperative that the esthetician keep abreast of the most current
information as well as future trends. The Institute is committed to achieving these goals.
Programs offered at the Catherine Hinds Institute of Esthetics are the direct
result of years of research and development in the field of skin care, and were
carefully designed to meet the demand for personalized care and theraputic
treatment by highly skilled skin care therapists. In 1998, Catherine's institute
reached yet another milestone in the field of esthetics, as the Institute became the
first school in the country to offer a 1200 hour accredited licensing
program in Medical Esthetics.
In the same year she established the Institute, Catherine also opened the doors to
Catherine Hinds Manufacturing.
This company responds to the esthetician's need for quality professional
supplies. The Catherine Hinds companies have researched
and developed an extensive line of proprietary and private label skin
care products and equipment for the esthetician's professional use.
Catherine Hinds Manufacturing offers a complete line of products and
specialty items for all skin types and conditions. Available as
Catherine Hinds Classics, Tree of Life, and Private Label, these
products are carefully formulated using only the finest natural ingredients
and distilled water. Swift production in small consignments ensures quality
control and minimizes the use of preservatives. This process allows
Catherine Hinds Manufacturing to use low levels of preservatives so that all
active ingredients are more effective when used topically.
In 1995, adding what she calls "the last piece of the puzzle" to her
skin care empire, Catherine Hinds acquired the American Skin Care System™
(ASCS), (formerly Facial Firm). This revolutionary skin care technology is
the one skin care method that integrates esthetic and medical therapeutic
strategies. Proven to be a powerful pre- and post-treatment tool, it also is
invaluable in applying lifetime maintenance programs in the battle toward
improving skin conditions. Originally designed by a physician to treat acne,
the ASCS has demonstrated positive results on a wide range of skin types and
conditions. It has proven extremely effective when used in conjunction with
glycolic applications, dermabrasion, laser and surgical procedures.
The ASCS console consists of four components: an Infra Ray Heat Mask, Galvanic,
Vacuum and Aeration System. All are designed to work with therapeutic
skin care products to boost the healing process while saving the esthetician
time and effort.
In addition to the ASCS console, Catherine Hinds Manufacturing now offers
the ASCS Galvanic. Two years in the making, this highly effective,
American-made therapeutic tool is the one piece of equipment capable of
strengthening the esthetician's hand. Packed with penetration power, it
is designed for the esthetician who wants a compact, "no-frills," portable
machine to perform ionization and disincrustation treatments. Convenient
and affordable it is the esthetician's answer to proven, cost-effective results.
Other optional attachments to the ASCS include the Electro Galvanic Body Pad
and Infra Ray Heat Mitts and Boots.
Catherine Hinds Manufacturing also produces
a professional Thermal Spa Duvet, ideal for detoxifying, herbal, seaweed, and
slimming and firming body wrap treatments. Of course, each of these products are
utilized in treatments available at the Catherine Hinds American Skin Care and Spa.
Perhaps best known for her
ability to negotiate future trends in skin care, Catherine Hinds established
the first accredited Spa Therapy program in the nation
and is now dedicated to recreating the role of the American
esthetician for the new millennium.
Nationally recognized for
her work, Ms. Hinds has received numerous honors including the New
England Women's Business Owners, Woman of the Year award, American
Salon Owner's Esthetician of the Year award and the prestigious
Dermascope Magazine Legend Award. However she takes the greatest
pride, in the fact that she has put hundreds of women into business
for themselves.
